hi every body!

could anyone help me understand the following"

1) the command " switchport trunk allowed vlan pruning 3" requires vtp pruning be enabled or not?

2)when vtp is enabled, which version is used by default ?

3) if we configure vtp version 2 on vtp server switch in a domain where all switches are capable of running both versions but one switch. Will version 1 be used in domain because one switch does not support version 2?

thanks alot !

hi!

From the following doc,

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.1E/native/command/reference/V1.html

"A VTP version 2-capable network device can operate in the same VTP domain as a network device running VTP version 1 provided VTP version 2 is disabled on the VTP version 2-capable network device (VTP version 2 is disabled by default).

Do not enable VTP version 2 on a network device unless all of the network devices in the same VTP domain are version 2 capable. When you enable VTP version 2 on a network device, all of the version 2-capable network devices in the domain enable VTP version 2.

As For your first question, "switchport trunk allowed vlan pruning 3" refers to manual pruning of vlans and doesnot require VTP prunung to be enabled.
