I have a PIX501 with a vpn tunnel to a pix 506E besides the light in the front how do i tell that the VPN is connected and if not how do i find out what the problem is?
You cannot see from the lights on the front - you need to log into the devices, issue the following commands from the command line:-
show crypto isakmp sa
and
show crypto ipsec sa
The above will tell you if you have a VPN connected.
