Enabling jumbo frames on WAN link

Should I expect any impact on applications after enabling jumbo frames? I have two sites connected over a 10Gb link terminated at 6509's on each site, an SRDF deployment requirement calls for the enabling of jumbo frames across the WAN and LAN on the path between the EMC devices, has anyone experienced any issues after enabling jumbo frames? Thanks in advance.

Borman,

Here is a reference guide for configuring Jumbo frames.

6500 Configuration

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_configuration_example09186a008010edab.shtml#c1

The only issue that I know is that certain line cards have limitations on the size (8092) of ingress frames.

Hello,

enabling the jumbo frames makes the switch to change the organization of hardware interface buffers that will be shorter.(in number of frames that can be handled)

If you have to transport Fiber Channel over IP (TCP actually) this provides you the benefit to be able to carry fiber channel frames inside a TCP segment without fragmentation.

hope to help

Giuseppe
