HSRP question

folks

i have a single internet connection and a 3745 on the perimeter

i want to provide some kind of resilience in case the 3745 fails by clustering a 3745 pair so i was thinking the HSRP is the answer

my problem is that i'm pretty limited on the number of addresses i have available on the outside

is hsrp the only option?

thanks to anyone taking the time to reply

Hi,

Well you will obviously need to have another connection from your 2nd router to the isp, as if the first router goes down, then the circuit to isp is gone.

You can use hsrp on the two routers on their interfaces facing the internal network.

But, as mentioned this really depends on your internet connection method and environment.

Hi,

The above statement regarding your internet connection is correct but personally I will use GLBP (Gateway Load Balancing Protocol). It allows to use the two circuits at the same time unlike HSRP that uses only one. The second one will be in standby.

I hope it helps.
