I'm having a problem with the Flash file system on an 871 router. The router cannot locate the file system and even an "fsck" from the "rommon >" prompt fails.
I've pulled the cover off the router and found the flash memory module. I tried reseating it but that didn't work.
Is this module replaceable or do I need to replace the entire router?

Rick,
The 871 has a 20Mb (non-removable) internal flash, and a removable flash module. I believe they ship with an 8Mb chip and it is expandable up to 32Mb. It is hard to say whether the problem is with the the embedded, or the removable flash module. The 871 does have a USB port that you can use to store your IOS, and boot from.
