Hi all

I am after a good tool which can fetch configs from network, compare it to a base template and report any deviations.

I use rancid today to get differential changes, but this does not tell me if the changes are in line with the base template.

Any recommendation woudl be great !

TIA

Sam

Hi,

CiscoWorks RME has this capability (it works, but is somewhat labour-intensive and obviously is Cisco-centric)

A much better tool is NCM (Network Compliance Manager) which is multi-vendor, easy to use, produces excellent reports but is somewhat expensive.

I wonder if it is worth getting this scripted, or use RANCID but diff new config files Vs a static template.

Not really IMHO. Depending on your clients regulatory requirements you may want to investigate a product that Cisco resells from HP (they were formerly known as a stand alone company Opsware) called NAS.
