ICND 1 Practice Exam question

Unanswered Question
Jul 5th, 2008

Hello everyone,

I refer to this question in part one of the practice exam for ICND 1.

27. Which two of these addresses are private IP addresses? (Choose two.)

Can anyone tell me why answer (a) is not correct. It confirms answer (b) and (c) as correct, however is'nt (a) also correct?

Isn't answer (a) in the range of to which is a private class A range?

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm guessing I missed the point somewhere.

Hi There

IMHO the correct answer is (a) & (c).

When a question asks about "Private" IP addresses I would take that to refer to RFC 1918 IP addresses.

These are,

I would not class addresses in the 127.x.x.x range as private. These are "Reserved" IP addresses and used for loop back addresses on "End Hosts".

Be aware that you do not (and cannot) assign IP addresses from the 127.x.x.x range to the loopback interfaces on Cisco equipment!

You will often find questions in practice tests which are wrong. Of course this should not happen. The books should be properly proof read before going to print. However the odd mistake does slip in from time to time, and the fact that you can recognise that the answer given is incorrect shows that you are learning the material.

Best Regards & Good luck with the studies,
