Centralized IPT Routers?

We are considering using an existing call manager 4.2(3)publisher and subscriber in one or our offices as a central site for a remote office. The office currently has a 2621 router that would need to be built out as the gateway router. We are planning on recommending a 2821 SRST gatway router for the remote site. Can a 2621 router be used as the central site gateway router? I am thinking the central site router DSP provisioning will need to be looked at. Is there any other reason we would not be able to use the existing 2621XM router at the central location?

Hi, to "size" a router, one needs to know the number of phone users and pots lines, things that you haven't mentioned.

The 2621XM can be used, but is very slow an limited, so most modern installation have them replaced by now.

We are scaling the remote office to accomodate 50 ip phones. We would be setting up an MPLS link to the 2621XM router for the call set up and tear down for the remote office calls from the central call manager. When you say "very slow" are you referring to CPU capacity?

Hi, indeed you need a minimum of a 2821 for the SRTS service.

The ISR router are faster and more flexible, beside that even the older ones are fine when properly equipped.

Both can even do a VPN backup over the internet, eg using ADSL if case the MPLS fails. This minimize the need of a full featured SRT configuration (conferecing, etc).
