Hi Sundar,
CPU load can increase due to many reasons.
Reasons why CPU load can bump up...
1. Routing loops (L3)
2 Broadcast storms ( L2 looping)
3. Spanning tree processes and TCN's
4. packets being process switched
5 BGP scanner... etc.
6 Large routing tables on lower end routers...
7. ICMP redirects...
8. Heaps of ACL's(access-lists) etc..
9. SNMP polling etc..
10. Turning on debug and not turning it off..
The above are just a few..there could be many other reasons as well.. Please find the below link that gives you a little bit more info on symptoms/fixes etc.
