PIX 506E and strange NAT requirement.

hi, I currently have a PIX 506 in a test environment and am trying to come up with a solution for the following. I am trying to use NAT in a rather unorthodox way.

two networks, 10.5.1.0/24 on the inside and 172.26.224.0 on the outside. The PIX 506 has a static (inside,outside) 172.26.224.37 10.5.1.37 for clients on the outside to reach an internal host. This works fine.

Heres the problem, I want a specific host on the inside to use 172.26.224.37 (not 10.5.1.37). So if the workstation pings 172.26.224.37 (which is 10.5.1.37)it gets a reply. There is no way of relocating the client to the outside.

Any ideas?

Can you be a littler clearer on what you are astrying to achive, as when I read it - it makes no sense?

Hi, yes it is a little confusing. I have a network 172.26.224.0 on the outside with statics to translate 172.26.224.0 addresses into inside 10.5.x.x inside addresses. This works fine.

Now I have a client on the inside say 10.5.1.1. I want this client to connect to another inside host BUT using the 172.26.224.x IP address not the 10.5.1.x address. So it effectively goes to the PIX, PIX performs NAT and it comes back into the inside to connect to the inside host..... !

Is this possible through an alias command?

Mmmmmmm not really sure, I am away from my lab environment......but you could try something like:-

static (inside,inside) 172.26.224.x 10.5.1.x

Unfortunately you cannot do inside to inside :(

Ahhh yes - you have a 506 with either 6.3 or 6.4?!

You could try instead:-

alias (inside) 10.5.1.x 172.26.224.x 255.255.255.255
