vlan discrepancy

We have a cisco 2950-12 switch that is owned and managed by our ISP. We were told that port 1 is VLAN520 and set to full/100.

We plug our own cisco 2950-48 switch from port 32 to that port 1 using a X-over cable.

I then proceeded to define an ip address for vlan520 on our switch:

config t

int vlan520

ip address

ip default-gateway

and also set port 32 to vlan520 and full/100.

int fasteth0/32

switchport access vlan520

speed 100

duplex full

Port 32 starts to blink amber and I can't ping anything.

But once I did a "no switchport mode vlan 520" on port 32, it starts to blink green and i can ping.

So is it safe to say that my ISP has misinformed me about port 1 on the 2950-12, ie, it should be vlan 1, not vlan 520?

maybe your isp has cdp turned on and you can get some insight into how they're configured that way.

on your 2950:

show cdp nei detail

Switch#sh cdp nei detail

Doesn't give me any resulsts when I do this on our 2950-48?
