I have checked in the Feature Navigator on CCO. It looks like in some versions of IOS for the 1600 there is not support for BGP. And in some versions there is support for BGP. And within the versions that do have suport there is no support for BGP in the IP feature set but does have support in some other feature sets.

So I would guess that the version and feature set of IOS that you are running does not have support for BGP. If you would provide the exact file name of the image file on your router we might be able to verify this.

Elias,

Could you please provide more infrmation on what happens when you try to run BGP between the 1600 and the OpenBSD platform. As Rick mentioned, is it a problem with configuring BGP on the 1600 or is it that the session doesn't come up even though you can configure it. If the latter can you please post the configuration.

Also, you could try running a "deb ip bgp" on the 1600 and see what it tells you.

The BGP works as I have configure it between a same 1605 and 2600 series router.

Thank you once again

Elias,

I suppose you are running Quagga on the FreeBSD box, right?

Is it possible to run a "debug ip bgp" on the 1600 to find-out what is causing the session not to come up.

It would also be useful to include the BGP config from the 1600.

Dear Hritter,

I am using openbgpd.

I have managed to resolve the problem. It was a bug issue on my OpenBSD box that I have worked on.

Thank you all for sending more light on this.

Kind regards,

Elias
