Unified Communications Manager 6.1(1b) - Subscriber

Hi!

I'm planning to install a Unified Communications Manager Subscriber 6.1(1b). The Publisher is already installed. I would need some basic information. The subscriber IP address should be different from the publisher IP address, right? This cluster includes only this two plataforms. What functions should the subscriber have? Can it be load balancing or just work as a passive backup? Is there a good link where I can read about the best practices?

Best Regards,

Ana

4. Directory Services

4.1 Cisco DirSync: This service is used for LDAP integration. You need this service if you are going to integrate your CCM to an external LDAP server such as AD. You can enable on Oublisher and subscriber to provide resiliency.

Hope this helps.

NB: In CUCM 6.x, database resiliency enhancements were introduced to allow some CUCM applications to read and write to the local database. Thus there is no single point of failure at the publisher for these User Facing Features, one of which is Extension Mobility. Database changes made on one server are replicated to other servers within the cluster. So in CUCM 6.x, the Extension Mobility service can run on any of the CUCM servers and the Extension Mobility configuration is replicated to all servers. If the publisher is down, Extension Mobility information is still available for read and write in the subscribers.

Hi,

Here is a link to the design guide for CCM6.1

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/6x/uc6_1.html

Answers to some of your questions are

1. Yes, the IP address of the Sub must be different from that of the Publisher. However you m ust ensire that there is newtrok connectivity between the two of them.

2. The subscriber functions primarily as the call processing agent, hence certain services must be activated for it to process calls.

Callmanager 6 services is mainly divided into two

1. Feature services...These services promarily are responsible for the operation fo your callmanager system.

Under the feature services, you have the following listed services and the function they perform. I will discuss only the basic service you need ot get your system up and running and to provise the baswic call processing function you need.

1. Database and Admin service...

These services are used to access CCM6 database...The services under these are

1.1 Cisco AXL web service...This is used by applications such as IPCC, Meeting place express to access the user database in CCM..So if you have any such applications, you need to enable this service

1.2 Cisco Bulk Provision service..This is used to schedule and run BAT jobs, So if you will be running BAT, you need to enable this service

1.3 Cisco TAPS service...Cisco Tools for Auto provisioning..Used with BAt to insert larger numbe rof phones into CCM..Enable if you will use TAPS.

2.CM services..

2.1 Cisco callmanager...You call processing service..you must enable this for CCM to work

2.2 Cisco TFTP..Used to provide configuration files for your IP Phones. You must enable this service on atleast onse server iny our cluster, usually the publisher. However if your cluster is not so larger i.e less that 2,500 phones you can enable this on your subscriber too to provide backup for your publisher incase of any outage

2.3 Cisco Unified Mobile Voice Access Service..This is used for Mobile Voice access..This is the feature that enables you dial from an external number and call in to your network as though you are within the office. This also enables you to turn mobile connect on or off.

Enable this if you are using Mobile Voice Access

2.4 Cisco IP Voice Media Streaming App..This service provides MOH, Software conference bridge, Annunciator and software MTP (media termination point)

This should be enabled on atleast one server in your cluster..usually the publisher..So you may not enable this on your subscriber

2.5 Cisco CTIManager...This manages your CTI applications or virtual devices such as your softphones, CTI ports and CTI RP. Enable this on your subscriber

2.6 Cisco Extension Mobility. If you are using Extension mobility, the ability to move around without carrying your physical phones with you and login in to other phones and have your profiles downloaded on the phone you are logged into. You should enable this on your subscriber and on your publisher for redundancy.

2.7 Cisco Dialed Number Analyzer...DNA is is a powerful troubleshooting programme within CCM that enable you to troubleshoot call routing in your CCM.

You can enable this on your publisher alone..

2.8 co DHCP Monitor Service: This is ther service that provides DHCP. So if you are going to use your subscriber as a DHCP server, then you must enable this. If not leave it out.

3. CTI Services

Under CTI services you have

3.1 Cisco CallManager Attendant Console Server. This service is used for Attendant Console . So if you are going to use AC enable this either on your publisher or subscriber.

3.2 Cisco IP Manager Assistant..Used for IPMA

enable if you will be suign IPMA

3.3 Cisco WebDialer Web Service: This service enables the feature that allows you to dial and lookup users fromy our browser.

You can either enable on subscriber or publisher

hey Deji, 5 points for your nice answer

just to add something to the info from Deji, before you even attempt to install the SUB you need to create it in the PUB, otherwise the PUB will not accept communication from an unknown host. this release does not accept communication attempts from unrecognized hosts so you need to declare it before you do the actual install process.
