ASA initial settings

Unanswered Question

I'm working on my new ASA 5505 7.2(3)

I have few basic questions:

1. should I upgrade the software to 8.x? (I see it on the attached CD) if the answer is yes, what would be the best practice for that process?

2. generally I want all trafic to go out as A.B.C.x/24

for email (as an example but not just email) I want to use a different IP on the same ISP set of /24. how do I configure it to go out as A.B.C.y/24?

Hi,

1. Upgrade to 8.x = I would suggest you check the release notes at

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa80/release/notes/arn803n.html

2. If your internal network (inside) is A.B.C.x/24 and you want to send these ip's to Outside as A.B.C.y/24 , use this command

static(inside,outside) A.B.C.y A.B.C.x netmask 255.255.255.0

Hope this helps.

1. yes upgrade. There is only one way to upgrade, I guess it could be considered 'best practice' :-)

2. You use the static nat commands in general to accommodate what you are asking for.
