What does green mean?

In CiscoView, when a port is green, does that mean that there is a cable connected to the interface AND connected to a device (a PC) on the other end? Would it be green if the other end was not connected to a device, but connected to the port? what if the device (a PC) were shutdown, would it be green?

Green typically means the port is connected (meaning its status is up/up). That means a cable is connected to the port, and the other end is connected to a device which is powered on, or otherwise providing a link beat.

Some PCs that are plugged in, but powered off still provide link to support features like WakeOnLAN.

Just to clarify, if the interface is red, it is enabled but nothing is connected? and/or it is possible that something is connected it is just shutdown?

We are trying to use CV to determine the number of total ports a site is using, by counting the number of green interfaces....

Each device package can use colors for its own purposes, so check the color legend when viewing each device type.

If you want to get a list of total ports in your network, you should consider using the Campus Manager switch port reports instead. These are found under Campus Manager > User Tracking > Reports > Report Generator > Switch Port Report in LMS 3.0 and higher.
