Power Usage Cisco 7965G IP phone

Hi,

Does anyone know how much power is consumed by a 7965 if you turn on the display sleep function, in comparison to how much is used in normal operation (understand idle is about 6.53W)?

I thought that this was an excellent question, especially given the current co$ts associated with Energy. I have scoured everywhere that I could think of trying to find a defined number and this does not seem to be published :(

Here are the current references from Cisco;

Low-power modes on IP phones: Cisco Unified Communications Manager Version 4 provides a central command that can darken the displays on all the IP phones connected to a network at a given time after business hours. This can save up to 25 percent of a phone's typical energy consumption.

You are most welcome my friend :) Great question, hopefully these numbers will come to the forefront more and more in the near future. I know that Nortel is using these type of Power numbers alot in their current Marketing. Cisco, I'm sure, will need to do the same.

Hi Rob,

I am good and hope the same for you.

From that presentation I especially like the part of saving CO2 using telepresence.

But I guess there is a catch in that theory.

Lets say daily 5 users of a specific country have stopped travelling to a specific destination. Regardless the flight for that destination is going to fly eventually ejecting the same amount of CO2 in air.

Its going to make a difference when its widely deployed such that it bring down the number of people travelling exactly equal to the number of people boarding a single plane and the airlines have to stop that fligh.

What's your view on that?

Hey Sushil,

I totally agree with you here :) These things will happen in small increments that's for sure. You can already see the Airlines cutting back on the number of flights (mostly due to to the high costs of fuel and too many empty seats) Hopefully products like Telepresence are contributing to the number of empty seats. I was talking to a friend the other day whose company has offices in Calgary and Denver. They used to fly very often between these two cities but now with their Telepresence deployment they almost never do :) If we multiply this by many companies worldwide, we will start to see significant change.

Every little bit helps as they say!

A. No.

The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7965G and 7945G models will draw a maximum of 12W from a switch; this places them beyond the limits of Class 2, but below the default 15.4W value of Class 3.

Same is for 7975.

I was a little surprised that Cisco do not publish these numbers. This is a hot topic at the mo, and their competitors have stepped up and provided this.
