Guys,

I am facing very strange problem with my 2811 routers that i copied c2800nm-advsecurityk9-12.4 and issue boot system command for c2800nm-advsecurityk9-12.4 but still its booting from its ipbase IOS. I cannot delete ipbase IOS and then reboot from advsecurityk9 because its remote end router and there is no I.T officer available.

any suggestion.

Regards,

Rahat Siddiq

Did you already have a boot system line in the config for the original IOS? If so the router will try the boot system commands in the order that it reads them.

Are you using the standard config-register?

i just upload K9 IOS and enter commanad

boot system flash (flash file name)and save configuration and reboot.

but still its booting from old ipbase IOS.

config register is 0X2102

Regards

Exactly, so if you show run - what boot system commands are in there? What order are they in?

only

boot system flash c2800nm-advsecurityk9-mz.124-3h.bin

Odd - not sure why it isn't working then.

If you run show flash does the image file definitely show up in there? Have you tried removing the boot system command, and then copying the filename from the show flash output, to make it's definitely correct?

One last obvious question - are you definitely saving the config before reloading?

you can see the output and offcourse i am saving config.

and this problem is not only one branch i am facing the same problem in more than 4 branches.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Do you want to keep the old IOS on the Router? If not you can erase the IOS you do not want and it should then boot to the one you want. It looks like it is just booting the first one it sees rather than the one you have defined. Can you post the output to this command

dir all-file

Mike

My guess is that the router cannot read the new file for some reason. Unfortunately these message are in the console during boot and are many time not in the log afterward so you normally have to be able to have console access to see some errors. The file looks the proper size so its hard to say. I have had files not read from the flash and had to format the flash and reload the files.

Even without local IT hopefully you could get someone who could physically swap the flash card. You could build a new flash card with the image you want at you local site and test it. Then send the card to the site and have someone swap it. If it doesn't work they can just put the old one back. Of course if the site is international it may not be worth dealing with sending encryption software though customs in some countries.

Something I notice when I check the size of your IOS is that there are a couple of nasty bugs in that release. This one in particular

CSCsh74975

Headline: udp packets to port 2517 cause memory depletion or reload on router

Also, you could see if someone could connect a laptop to your network and then connect a console cable to that laptop and then remote into the laptop with something like RDP and then you could see what comes up during boot to see if there are any errors.

Mike

I've had same issue recently on 1801, only way around was to put both IOS (old & new) on router issue boot system flash command "new IOS" to conf, then delete old IOS file from flash and reload.
