Removing a switch from a 4 switch 3750 stack

What is the behavior of the config if I were to remove the second switch from a 4 switch 3750 stack. Would the switch 3 reassign itself to 2? What if I want to move switch 4 (48 port) to switch 2 (24 port)?

This a permanent removal.

If you remove 2 from the stack, 3 will remain as 3 and 4 will remain as 4. Even if you put 4 into 2's position.

Please see the following documentation for more info:

HTH,

Unfortunate I'm still using 12.1

Thanks for the clarification. However, the 12.1 is behaving a little different from 12.2.

If you remove 2 and replace with the same model, the new switch will become 2. Please see the following link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.1_19_ea1/configuration/guide/swstack.html#wp1151629

You can also change the switch member number:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.1_19_ea1/configuration/guide/swstack.html#wp1112897

However, please back up your config or lab it before trying it.

HTH,

jerry
