SSID vs BSSID

Hi,

which is the differece between the SSID and the BSSID ?

On my WIFI Bridge with "sh controller" command the output is:

...

Number of Supported simultaneous BSSID on Dot11Radio0: 8

...

is this also the limit of the maxium number of SSID ?

If I need to configure on the WIFI bridge multiple VLAN (IEEE 802.1q encapsulation) and configure the SSID for every VLAN (SSID VLAN <--> WIFI VLAN <--bridged--> ETHERNET VLAN) the limit is 8 ?

Thanks in advance.

The SSID is the label you enter in the SSID field the BSSID is the mac address of the wireless card. your first VLAN/SSID pair will use the burned in MAC address, additional SSID/VLAN pairs will use a MAC address which is the burned in MAC address incremented by one for each pair. for example if the mac address of the radio ends in 00 the second vlan you create the MAC/BSSID will end in 01 and the 8th will end in 07. and yes the limit is 8.

good luck

Bill
