LAP to AP convertion in 1131G

I have a LAP1131G-A-K9 with C1130 Software (C1130-RCVK9W8-M), Version 12.3(11)JX1,

System image file is "flash:/c1130-rcvk9w8-mx/c1130-rcvk9w8-mx"

I need to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode but I don't know what IOS should use.

Any suggestion?

Did you try the below:-

Using a Wireless LAN Controller to Return to a Previous Release

Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode using a wireless LAN controller:

Step 1 Log into the CLI on the Wireless LAN Controller to which the access point is associated.

Step 2 Enter this command:

config ap tftp-downgrade tftp-server-ip-address filename access-point-name

andrew,

I don't have Wireless LAN controller :-(

this is the easiest and the most fun way >>>

NOTE: download the correct ios image copy it to the tftp directory and rename it as in the following instructions...

good luck!!

Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note This section does not apply to Cisco C3201WMIC and Cisco C3201LAP.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.

Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.

Step 3 On the PC where the TFTP server is located, perform these steps:

a. Disable any software firewall products, such as Windows firewall, ZoneAlarm firewall, McAffee firewall, or others.

b. Ensure all Windows files are visible. From Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders.

Step 4 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.

Step 5 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.

Step 6 Disconnect power from the access point.

Step 7 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.

Step 8 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.

Step 9 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.

Step 10 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.

Pirateo,

I tried several times the procedure. I set the ip address 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.0 also with mask 255.0.0.0,

I put in the folder the IOS c1130-k9w7-tar.123-8.JA2.tar (before renamed it)

this error message is displayed.

button pressed for 21 seconds

I don't khow if I'm doing something wrong...

The access point is not receving the file or cannot connect to your tftp server hence:-

"%Error opening (connection timed out)Loading"

Check your TFTP server logs? Check you can ping the tftp server from the AP when you change the IP address? Check the machine with the TFTP server on it does NOT have any firewall enabled? Put the file into the default TFTP directory on the TFTP server? If you check/do all these and then follow the below to the letter it should work:-

Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:

Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.

Step 5 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.

Step 6 Disconnect power from the access point.

hi andrew,

I have already checked all the steps several times even I used another TFTP server

I set the IP address 10.0.0.2 in my PC, with 255.0.0.0 y also tried 255.255.255.0 mask

when I try to ping from LAP to my PC I receive this message

AP001e.f7ef.0b0e>ping 10.0.0.2

% Unrecognized host or address, or protocol not running

From the TFTP server this message is displayed

Connection received from 10.0.0.1 on port 1024 [20/07 10:51:43.968]

Read request for file . Mode octet [20/07 10:51:43.968]

Using local port 2034 [20/07 10:51:44.031]

TIMEOUT waiting for Ack block #1 [20/07 10:51:59.078]

I renamed the c1130-k9w7-tar.123-8.JA2.tar_f.tar

PING is a strange one - should work, almost looks like IP routing is not working....but not an issue - does not reallt need to route.

TFTP - looks like it could be a udp port issue - try changing the port your tftp port listens on from udp 69 to 1024?

Hi Andrew,

I asked to one of my coworkers to try the same procedure and it WORKS !!!!!

Maybe something wrong with my laptop.

thanks for your time.

hi...

i just converted an ap today, 1242 from lwapp-auto. got the same error. problem was the ethernet port wasnt initialize

ethernet_init

i'm connected by cross to the ap and before that icon was having x. after issuing the command, it showed 100mbps.

i finally got it with this:

1. assign ur pc to the 10.0.0.2 - 32 range /24

2. setup the tftp utility in your pc, make sure it's running.

3. make sure you have the correct tftp folder for your ios files.

4. make sure have the correct ios image. (lwapp or auto)

5. make sure you have the correct ios version. (ex. c1240-k9w7-tar.123-11.JA4)

6. connect the ap to ur pc/notebook via cross cable.

7. connect to the console to monitor ap activity.

8. before powering on the ap, press hold the mode button for 20-30 secs.

9. check the terminal for any error.

10. if all's well, you see the file extracting automatically.

good luck!!!

HTH!

Pirateo
