Access server setup

Unanswered Question
Jul 23rd, 2008

Hi guys, I have a number of routers and switches and rather than opening dozens of outty or SecureCRT sessions to them I have bought a 2511 router and octal cable to use as an access server. I am having trouble trying to reverse telnet to the first device on line 0.

My config looks like this:

ip host R2501 2001

Where is loopback0 and 2001 defines the first line on the octal cable.

When I telnet 2001 I get connection refused message.

Any ideas what may be wrong here?

I have this problem too.

Hi Dean

Is the piece of equipment that is connected to the first of the octal cables configured for console access.

If you just connect a Cisco console (blue) cable to this equipment instead of the octal cable, can you access this equipmnet ok?

If possible could you post the configs of you 2511 and the equipment you are trying to access?

Instead of: ip host R2501 2001 try ip host R2501 2001

Ok, problem me...and guys, it does pay to note which async port you plug the octal cable into :) I plugged it onto ports 9-16 meaning the telnet port should have been 2009 and not 2001 :)

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.
