I am trying to upgrade my 6509-e boxes from hybrid to native ios.

The doc i have been following is below..

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_tech_note09186a008015bfa6.shtml#conv_32

I have uploaded the new os and set the config-register to 0X0 and saved the config. But when I try to reload the router i get the following error

Reload to the ROM monitor only allowed from console line

unless the configuration register boot bits are non-zero

Router#sh bootvar

BOOT variable = c6msfc2a-ipbase_wan-mz.122-18.SXF8.bin,1;

CONFIG_FILE variable =

BOOTLDR variable =

Configuration register is 0x2102 (will be 0x0 at next reload)

Router#sh run

Are you trying to reload with your confreg set to 0x0 from a telnet/ssh session?

If so, IOS is keeping you from doing something very bad: reloading the box and forcing it into ROMMON remotely (where you can no longer telnet or ssh into the box)

You will need to have a connection directly into the console port in order to do the conversion. Plus, if there is an issue, you really want to be there.
