Replace Cisco 4507 switches with Cisco 6509e switches

Dear Experts,

Currently our large scale access layer is 50% 6509e's & 50% 4507 layer 2 switches. I received enough surplus 6509e's that I can replace all of the 4507s. Just would have to fund upgrading eletrical in the IDF's and purchase some additional line cards. The 4507's are working fine for now. Are there any good reasons to upgrade to all

6509e's versus leaving the 4507's in place? Are the 4507's nearing end of life?

thanks DWB

Don,

You certainly have a very interesting scenario. The 4507's are not close to ending their lifetime anytime soon. The 6500's are nice, but seem unnecessary if the 4507's are doing their job. If for some reason a 4507 is not performing to your requirements I would say replace it. There is no need to upgrade a piece of equipment that does not need to be upgraded. If possible I would hold on to the 6500 equipment until it is needed.

HTH,

Mark
