Hi Chris,

Firmware Files via the new Software Downloads;

Voice and Unified Communications > Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G > Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP) Software > 8.3(5) > cmterm-7941_7961-sccp.8-3-5.cop.sgn

This is done via OS Admin>Software Upgrades

Software Upgrades

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can use the Software Upgrades options to perform the following types of installations and upgrades:

•Install/Upgrade-Use this option to upgrade the application software, install Cisco Unified Communications Manager Locale Installers and dial plans, and upload and install device packs, phone firmware loads, and other COP files.

•TFTP File Management-Use this option to upload various device files for use by the phones to the TFTP server. The TFTP server files that you can upload include custom phone rings, callback tones, and phone backgrounds.

When using Cisco Unified CallManager Release 5.0 or later

For Cisco Unified CallManager 5.0, you must do all software installations and upgrades by using the Software Upgrades menu options. The system can upload and process only software that Cisco Systems approved. You cannot install or use third-party or Windows-based software applications that you may have been using with a previous version of Cisco Unified CallManager with Cisco Unified CallManager 5.0.

Using your web browser, login to the Cisco IPT Platform Administration web page

Under the Software Upgrades menu, select Install/Upgrade.

Fill in the appropriate values in the Software Location section for the file you downloaded above, and click Next.

In the Available Software drop-down box, select the file you downloaded above, and click Next.

After validating the MD5 has the correct value, click Next.

In the Warning box, verify you have selected the correct firmware, then click Install.

Check that you received a Success message.

Hope this helps!

That's all I needed to know

thank you very much

Hi Cris,

You are most welcome my friend!

Have a great weekend,

Rob

Hi Rob,

That was an awesome post, but to clarify after you have installed the cop file do you need to:

1. Change the device defaults load file for that phone

2. Restart the TFTP service

Just a little unclear on these two steps, your help would be appreciated

Hi Tony,

Good stuff

You will need to re-start the TFTP service but you shouldn't need to

change the Device Defaults page. One thing to always do is take a

screenshot or copy in Notepad of your existing Device Defaults before

making any changes, just in case.

Cheers!

Rob

Oh ok, I was under the impression you needed to change the device defaults page for the phone type to load the latest load file, are you saying that is automatic?

Thanks for such a quick response, extremely helpful

All I have to do now is change control.

Cheers,

Tony

Hey Tony,

You are most welcome my friend

When you stop/start the TFTP service as the final step, the new Device Defaults

should automagically populate.

Cheers!

Rob

So if my device defaults do update, but my phones fail to upgrade after being reset, what can I do?

Hi Larry,

Can you provide the current firmware versions and the versions you

are trying to upgrade to

Cheers!

Rob
