E1 ISDN in Germany

Answered Question
Jul 25th, 2008

Can anyone give me some advice as to what kind of E1 VWIC I need to connect to a S2m line in Germany? We are trying to use a VWIC2-1MFT-E1/T1. When we connect the router to telcos equipment, a Bosch NT2MSKU-E the E1 controller in the router comes up but shows a condition of “Far End Block Errors Detected”. The Bocsh NT2MSKU-E has a red S2m light. This S2m light is not lit when the legacy PBX is connected instead. With the router, the PRI actually shows multiframe established but we can not receive or place calls. We see no Q931 messages from telco. With the legacy PBX we can place and receive calls. I'm suspecting we may need a G.703 VWIC. Does anyone have any advice? This site is in the city area of Chemnitz.

Thanks,

Dave

I have this problem too.

Hello Dave,

your VWIC is correct for Germany.

Configure something like

network-clock-participate wic 1

network-clock-select 1 E1 0/1/0

controller E1 0/1/0

pri-group timeslots 1-31

interface serial0/1/0:15

no ip address

encapsulation hdlc

isdn switch-type primary-net5

isdn overlap-receiving

isdn incomming-voice voice

no cdp enable

voice-port 0/1/0:15

cptone de

bearer-cap 3100Hz

plus your dialpeers.

Keep in mind that in Germany sometimes the pinout of an E1 is not using pins 1,2,4,5, but

3,4,5,6, so

MUX RJ45 Wire S2M-RJ45Cisco

3 (green-white) In/a 4

4 (blue) Out/a 1

5 (blue-white) Out/b 2

6 (green) In/b 5

Bye

Jo,

Thanks for the reply. It was indeed a wiring issue. Over the weekend we tried one more go at the cable form the NTU and go it right.
