The difference between Abbreviated speed dials and speed dials

When an end user logs in via the web gui to Call Manager to add speed dials to their IP Phone, there is an option below the speed dials to add abbreviated speed dials. Can someone please clarify the difference? How are abbreviated speed dials used?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Vicky

speed dials have a button associated in the phone to just press it and dial

abbreviated speed dials do not have a button, you dial the ID and then the abbrdial softkey to dial

Thank you for your response. Do you know how we can add the abbrdial softkey to our softkey template? Our softkey templates do not seem to have that available.

Any guidance is very much appreciated.

Hi Vicky,

The Speed Dials that are configured by the User via ccmuser are associated with spare Line Buttons (if any are available). The remainder are accessed via the AbbrDial Softkey (Abbreviated Dial).

In this test scenario the 7961 has a Button Template called 3-Line 3-Speeddial so the first 3 that are setup via ccmuser take Line Button 4,5 and 6. The remainder are accessed by keeping the Handset On-Hook, dialing the applicable Speed Dial Code (for example 15 followed by pressing the AbbrDial Softkey) the number programmed against Speed Dial 15 will then be called;

The following options are available for SEP00170EEE2F88 (Test Q335):

Forward all calls to a different number

Add/Update your Speed Dials

Configure your Cisco IP Phone Services

Configure your Cisco Personal Address Book

Change the Message Waiting Lamp policy for your phone

Change the Ring Settings for your phone

Change the Locale for this phone

Change the Locale for these web pages

Change your Password

Change your PIN

Add/Update Your Speed Dials

Configure the Speed Dial Buttons for your Cisco 7961 (SEP00170EEE2F88)

Use this page to enter the phone numbers you want associated with each of your Speed Dial buttons. When you are done, click Update.

Hope this helps!

Hi Rob,

Thank you for the response. I have checked around our softkey templates and we can't locate the AbbrDial option. Can you help us understand how we add that option to our template?

We are running Call Manager 5.1(2).

Again any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

Rgds,

Vicky

it should already be there, have you tried just dialing a couple of numbers being on-hook? you should get the abbrdial softkey

Hi Vicky,

Just to clarifiy, the AbbrDial Softkey is not available in any Template :) It is inherently there when On-Hook dialing.

Hope this helps!

Rob

Very helpful. Thank you again.

I have a CCM 4.1(3). When I hit "01 abbrdial" I get a fast busy. any ideas?

Just notice this was originally posted some time back. Either way, just another thing to add to the fine advice from both Rob and Java, and that is the abbrdial softkey as already mentioned is only available when on-hook and not any other phone state.

Therefore, abbrdial is not available on anyother line only the primary-line. So if you have multiple appearances abbrdial will only use the primary-line. In order to use another line which is not your primary line you have to essentially go off-hook, and when you do, the abbrdial is not available.

If you are getting fastbusy then call could not be completed, verify your css and the number associate with 01. Does your line css allow permit calls to this number? Is it external number, have you prefixed the PSTN access code to it?

Hope this helps.

Allan.
