Hi,
I am new to Cisco switches world.
I have one Catalyst 2960 switch with 4 Gigabit ports.
Using gigabit ports with GBIC (1310nm), this cisco switch was not able to connect to D-link or 3Com switches with the same gbic model and port type.
But I could make 2 d-link switches talk to each other using the same optical fiber structure and port type. And the same with 2 3com switches.
Is there any kind of incompatibility between catalyst 2960 switches and other ones? Or is it misconfigurated?
Thanks

Can you try disabling auto negotiation of speed and duplex on both the switches and check again?.

How can I do that on Cisco switch?

Under the Gig interface configuration,
NativeIOS(config-if)#speed 1000
NativeIOS(config-if)#duplex full
Do the same on the other 3-com or D-link switches as well.

Unless they are cisco approved gbics they may not work in a cisco box. They should be cisco gbics.
