What is the MODE Button really for?

So i was having issues with an LWAP 1242 associating to a WLC 4404 with code 4.2.112 where it would not associate to the correct WLC. So i reset the AP numberous times using the mode button but it never cleared the hostname or anything for that matter on the AP, which I believe did not have a static IP. So i finally had to log-in to the WLC that this AP was associating to and perform a reset through the GUI.

So what gives, isnt the mode button supposed to do the same thing?

Did you hold it down while powering the 1242 up?

Yes, those are all very basic steps. I wait until the LED turns Amber which is 2 - 3 seconds.

you will need to power down the AP, then hold down the mode button and while the button is down power up the AP, if you use external power the AP may boot up into Rom1 mode and will have to type 'boot' to get the AP to boot, if you use PoE then the AP will boot up as normal.

Its best practice to have a console to the AP running at the same time.

Holding the mode button for 30seconds will release the APs static IP address, The AP will retain its hostname and controller IP addresses.
