Beacons and Beacon Period on Controller

I have several questions concerning the beacons. First, here we have 81 LWAPP 1242s with two Cisco 4404 controllers. Is there anything different between the way the LWAPP system does beacons versus an autonomous AP system; more info in the beacon, more frequent, etc? By setting the period to 600ms, how will that affect the performance of our system? There are 4 SSIDs here, does it beacon for each SSID? We disabled 2 SSIDs and did not see any performance gain. What exactly is the DTIM and will adjusting that get us anything?

Thanks, we are not using Multicasting so i am guess ingthe values will not affect anything drastically.

If all you have are laptops or pc's on the wireless, then changing the DTIM shouldn't hurt. VoIP phones need this changed from the default and each manufacturer has a different value setting. I don't think you will see any performance gains by changing this though.
