Video and Voice over IP

hi

I would like to know if there is any IP phone that concurrently serves voice and video. If not, how is video and voice converged over IP besides using telepresence. I also want to know if both(voice and video)traffic run independently, for instance voice on your IP phone and video on another visual device or if both are carried the same time on packets. I also want to know the role of IP phones in the telepresence solution.

IP video conferencing units are basically IP phones with a screen and a camera on them. Cisco sells a rebranded Tandberg that connects to Call Manager (7985G):

You could also check out Tandberg, they have a really nice looking video/IP phone (I've never tested it, but their other IP video products are very good, and do support skinny protocol).

I'm sure Polycom has something similar.

WRT Telepresence, not sure what you mean. In my opinion the whole system is just an IP phone with a glorified screen and camera (I'm not knocking it, it's well presented) I'm sure you can conference in any IP phone as a voice call if need be.

I've also heard that Cisco will be adding video and cameras to their higher end phones in upcoming versions. Not sure if some models may already have it as an option.

Ryan

Hi, you can also try CUVA (Cisco Unified Video Advantage). It is a USB camera plugs into the PC. The camera software will communicate with your IP phone. If there is a video enabled end point, video will be active.

Of course, some configuration will be require on your CallManager.
