Hi,

there is redundant SUP2 on catalyst 6509.SRM is also configured for MSFC.

In the output of show module the secondary SUP status is "other" . Can anyone explain what is wrong here ? and what can be done to rectify it ?

How can i check if the redundant SUP2 is in standby mode?

Thanks for your help in advance.

If you are running 7.6(7) and 8.3(1) you would like to look at CSCee54278.

Also, the "other" status might also mean that sup has not properly booted and is stuck in ROMMON.

Hello Saju,

everything is OK, the two supervisors cannot be active at the same time so the standby supervisor should be in a state different from OK

If I remember correctly the standby supervisor is shown as other

see

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps663/products_tech_note09186a0080094713.shtml#st

and for redundancy

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/catos/8.x/configuration/guide/redund.html

use

show system highavailability on catos CLI

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello Saju,

I've given you a wrong info, I apologize for this.

I checked on my old job logs, actually the standby SUP should have state standby

c6509r4# (enable) sh module

Mod Slot Ports Module-Type Model Sub Status

--- ---- ----- ------------------------- ------------------- ---

--------

1 1 2 1000BaseX Supervisor WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE yes ok

15 1 1 Multilayer Switch Feature WS-F6K-MSFC2 no ok

2 2 2 1000BaseX Supervisor WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE yes standby

16 2 1 Multilayer Switch Feature WS-F6K-MSFC2 no ok

3 3 16 1000BaseX Ethernet WS-X6516-GBIC no ok

4 4 48 10/100BaseTX Ethernet WS-X6348-RJ-45 no ok

5 5 0 Switch Fabric Module WS-C6500-SFM no ok

So yours is a real issue. Follow other suggestions like trying to reset the standby module I'm afraid it doesn't support OIR (on-line insertion and removal).

So schedule a maintenance window power off the chassis reseat the module and then power on the chassis.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello Saju,

can you access the MSFC on slot 16 with session 16 ?

If you can, from MSFC you can issue sh cdp n detail to check if the supervisor has loaded the CatOS.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for the reply.

I can connect to session 16 but cannot authenticate after i am prompted for username and password?

Any idea why i cannot authenticate when i do session 16?
