see below.
also tried other dtmr relay protocols as well
they said it was rfc2833 which is rtp-nte

Ok..
On your Sip trunk, you need to assign it to a MRGL that has a software MTP in its MRG.
Is this CCM or CCME...The above is for CCM, if its CCME, then you will need hardware MTP

You will require an MTP for DTMF with SIP, simply create MTPs and on the SIP trunk check the "require MTP" checkbox.

Here is a link to a tech note that discusses CME and dtmf relay support - they talk about sip and sccp phones, but they also have a SIP trunk in their sample config, with comments:

Not sure if this will help but try addig the following to your SIP dial peer
rtp payload-type cisco-codec-fax-ack 114
rtp payload-type cisco-codec-fax-ind 113
rtp payload-type nte 98
voice-class sip dtmf-relay force rtp-nte
08-14-2008 11:21 AM
wil give that a go.
do you think this could resolve a fax issue we have over the sip trunk as well. basically we can dial into the fax but not send a fax. the voice translation rule is ok as i tested this. i can see the voice call from the fax machine leave the system as well over the dial peer
