Can someone tell me the best way to test a cisco 4900M. I actuall have 2 of them and an IXIA packet generator. I need to know how to cable them up. swicth to swicth and switches to IXIA.

Hello Yolanda,

I would connect the two 4900M in back to back with two of the highest speed links thay have for example two 10 Gigabit links

I would connect IXIA port 1 to switch1 on a gigabit or ten gigabit port

I would connect IXIA port 2 to swtich 2 on a gigabit ethernet or ten gigabit port

If you have more then two IXIA ports half on switch 1 half connected to switch2

Depending on the tests the inter-switch connection can be a L3 routed link or simply a L2 link.

for multicast you need to configure both switches to support it

a good reference doc about 4900M for installation

configuration guides

and as ultimate reference

Hope to help

My IXIA only has 1 fiber port on the front. believe it would be an SC connector. In the back there are 2 10/100 rj-45 ports.

Hello Yolanda,

lan connections on the back can be for management of IXIA at least one and cannot be used for testing

refer to IXIA documentation to verify what are used for

I used IXIA I remember a module with 4FE, a module with 1GE and also a module with 10GE may be using two slots

the test ports are all on the same side of the chassis I think.

Hope to help
