I am familiar with carrying out IOS upgrade procedure on 65K platform, but have come across one issue today. The boot system command points to disk0: image. The disk0: image has been checksummed & verified. Upon reload the switch ends up in rommon. when 'boot', is issued from rommon, the second image in the bootstring loads sucessfully.

Hi recently i faced this issue with 6504-E.
When i used "show version" confreg = 0x2102
I used command "remote command switch show version " and found that confreg = 0x2100.
I went to ROMMON is issued command confreg 0x2102 and "reset".
Then it booted normally , again i tried reloading, so it resolved.

Ajaz,
You should try upgrading the rommon especially the SP. There have been some known booting issues with older rommon versions. I had this problem a while back and upgrading the rommon fixed the issue.

Hmm.. I hear what you're saying but we have multiple 65K cores switches with same bootrom version - with no issues.
I'm seeing this behaviour occur on this single Cat only.
Might have to be one for TAC. Could well be HW issue.

just put a \ after boot0: and before the image name.
its either a "/" or a "\"
08-19-2008 01:28 AM
I could potentially give that a shot but the '/' would point to the contents within a directory structure. In this case we have the extracted image available directly on disk0. I'm doing nothing different here to what we have across all 65K's. Here's the config from another chassis, it's a working example:
hostname core05
!
boot-start-marker
boot system flash disk0:s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH2a.bin
boot system sup-bootflash:s72033-pk9s-mz.122-18.SXD4.bin

Check to see if the config register is correct on the supervisor processor when it is in rommon. there is a supervisor register and a msfc register . I have seen where it was incorrect right from the factory on the supervisor side , thus it never passes the load on to the msfc to finish loading.

i'd buy into that possibility, however, i built these boxes from new, loaded the code no problem and rebooted (soft&hard) multiple times before they were deployed onto production network.
Could there be an issue if the compact flash was swapped - anybody?
This is one occasion I could really do with high touch 65K hw folk input from brux

Now this reply makes complete sense. How this core ended up like this is beyond me. Will try out of course and submit rating accordingly.

Thats exactly what I was talking about the supervisor config register was incorrect, couldn't remember the command to show it though. They can come thru from the facory like this , have seen it more than once....
