How to convert an interface index to an interface description

Hi

Friend's

I am getting interface index when the interface go Down/Up, It is quite frustrating when we get a trap that contains only a number identifying the entity that caused the trap. Many traps contain only an interface index or a tunnel number. How to convert an interface index to an interface description or obtain the tunnel name.

Do we have to enable some more on the switch to get the interface description please let me know

Thanks in Advance

Kiran Kumar

Hello Kiran,

not supported on all platforms but where supported solves your issue:

show snmp mib ifmib ifindex | inc __

example:

Router#sh snmp mib ifmib ifindex | inc _3_

GigabitEthernet1/3: Ifindex = 3

RT-TO-CRN-P1-E-1#

Hope to help

Giuseppe
