Cisco7206 FE Hardware Issue

Hi,

I have a Cisco 7206 Router with 2 FE interface. One for WAN (FA0/1) and LAN(FA0/2) and my WAN is connected to a 10Mbps circuit from the ISP, on my network I'm using NAT.

Network Topology

Location: Philippines

ISP's(Modem)

My problem was if I plug a computer directly to ISP's Modem located on my collocation; ISP's Modem-->PC my internet was so fast speedtest result from speakeasy.net/speedtest going to NY i am reaching 3Mbps DL and 2UL and my transfer rate in downloading a 26MB file from microsoft.com was hitting 1Mbps/sec. But if I used the above topology speedtest was dropped from 3Mbps down to 500Kbps, transfer rate were only between 100-200 Kbps. I would like to ask if there is a work around solution to my problem. I really don't know if my Fast Ethernet port or the Router itself is the problem. I already changed the FEport twice and switch it on a different slot, but I'm still stuck with the same problem. How would I know if my router is faulty, on which hardware ? Please I need an advise ASAP

I would check and make sure you are not getting something stuck at 100/half.

If you are using the old pa-fe cards those have the nasty problem of not doing auto negotiation many times. I think it is because they don't support 10m. If you have the 2 port Ethernet cards or are using the ports in the io module this seem to work a lot better.

Since I assume you have no access to the ISP modem you may want to temporarily place a switch between to let you see and set the duplex options

My interface is set to 100/Full. How would I know if I'm using the old pa-fe cards ? For your information, see details on the show version below.

Do you know what exact model of 2 port Ethernet cards that I need to have ?

They are all end of life.

The issues I always had with them is that they only support 100. Some equipment that is 10/100 would never negotiate correctly but with the pa-2fe they worked fine.

It will work well if you can get everything hard coded to 100/full. You will need to get the isp modem and your inside switch both set to 100/full.

Thanks for the help

What if i used my C2950 as an uplink and use my 7200 for NATting. See topology below

modem<-->C2950<-->C7200<-->LAN users

would this work ?

Would prove if it was a hardware issue. You would want to hard code to 100 full on the 2950 and the 7200. You could let the modem and the 2950 use auto.

If it still has a issue you at least can look at the counters on both ends and make sure you see no errors.

A 7200 should have no issues processing data at the rates you want. Most issues would show up as high cpu load if it was software causing it.
