2800 series and bandwidth/performance concern

Hello Netpros,

I am trying to choose a router/IOS for our environment. We will need to have a T1 and cable modem (30 megabit max download) both with ethernet hand-off coming into the router. The ability to fail-over/load balance, have maybe 5 incoming client-VPN connections, 1 site-to-site VPN and about 50 users in the office.

Cisco says the 2811 router is rated for 2 T1 connections. Or maybe it's just benchmarked with these connections?

My concern is that with a 30 megabit connection that the router won't be able to handle this well. I really don't think I'm going to be taxing the resources other than what I mentioned above.

Do you think the 2811 with advanced ip services IOS and an additional fast ethernet card would suffice for me and this scenario (2 WAN, 1 LAN)? Maybe a 2801 would suffice?

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Julian

Julian,

Please go to:

http://www.cisco.com/web/partners/tools/quickreference/index.html

and click under the 'Router Performance'.

You will find the 2811 is rated at 61.44Mbps so 30Mbps should be fine.
