Hello,

Can I use 3560G series (3560-28) switch for CCIE preperations? Also can I upgrade any 3550 switch IOS from SMI to EMI? What would you advise for access layer switches, I would like to go on CCIE Security after, so how many of switches do I need? Can I use 3550s instead 3650? What are the latest R&S official CCIE books for written and lab exams?

Thanks

Thanks Andrew, I am already aware of the Blueprint and I recheck time to time. I hope we can hear from people who prepared in his own lab an took lab exam at least once.

I know what you mean buddy - currently trying to pick up my R&S written studies at the moment....tough to do....very busy!

I hope you do it well m8, I am about to disconnect from earth for preperations :)

Yes.

Also can I upgrade any 3550 switch IOS from SMI to EMI?

Yes.

What would you advise for access layer switches, I would like to go on CCIE Security after, so how many of switches do I need?

Minimum of 4.

Can I use 3550s instead 3650?

I recommend having both. QoS is different between the 2 models, learn from both.

What are the latest R&S official CCIE books for written and lab exams?

The lab uses either 3550 and/or 3560's so it is good to familiarize yourself with both lines.

3750's are identical to a 3560 except the inclusion of Stackwise.

Internetworkexpert did a comparison of the features in a 3560 and a 3550 here:

http://www.internetworkexpert.com/resources/ccie-3560-3550.htm

Most practice exams use 2-4 switches with more empahsis on the latter.

Internetworkexpert and Cisco both have a recommened book list and I highly recommend most of the books on both lists (i've read 90% of them)

http://www.internetworkexpert.com/resources/cciebooks.htm

http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/ccie/rs/book_list.html

After passing the written I would find a vendor like InternetworkExpert (http://www.internetworkexpert.com) or NetMasterClass (http://www.netmasterclass.net) and get one of thier lab manuals. The lab manual will have what equipment you need to buy (or rent) in order to accomplish their practice exams.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks all, can you advise a specific book that you found useful before taking exam? I also need an advise about the book for lab exam too.

Huseyin,

There isn't a specific book that you can read and pass the CCIE R&S written, it's a compilation of books.

I highly recommend you read the TCP/IP Vol 1 and Vol 2 from Doyle, the BGP book from Halabi and then the comprehensive Routing and Switching Certification Guide - 3rd Edition by Odom.

Those books should cover the larger portion of the written exam.

As for the Lab, you don't get it from books but lots of rack time. Get yourself a workbook from a known vendor and allocate at least 500 hours for rack time before your lab attempt.

HTH,

Thanks Edison, can you give some workbook examples from known vendors for lab?

I'm afraid I can't advertise a specific vendor. You need to try them for yourself. They all offer a free sample of their Labs. Try them out and see which you like the most.

The only suggestion I can give you is to search for "CCIE Workbook" in google and you will find the top workbook vendors.
