Pushing a new signed phone load to 2000+ phones on CCM3.3(3)

One of our Device Pools contains over 2000 devices. I will be scheduling a push of the newer SCCP signed phone load P00308000900 (cmterm-7949-7960.8-0-9.exe) over a coming weekend.

Trouble is - the Device Pool contains a LOT of devices :o(

What impact (if any) is this likely to cause? I'm assuming that it will just take a while for all the devices to pull the new xml file for the App Load from the Publisher/Subscriber they home to.

We run CCM 3.3(3) on App Load P00303030401 at present. It will be our 7960's that get the upgrade to P00308000900. Tests to a few devices have been successful - but when 2000+ get told to restart en-masse, i think our CCM cluster might have a heart attack! :o)

Hi Andy,

When we push a new Firmware to large numbers of IP Phones we do them 50 to 100 at a time so as not to run into the issues you are worried about.

Via ccmadmin if you go to;

Device>Phone>Search by Device Type>7960 and all the 7960's will be available (check 50 per page). Then Select-All checkbox and reset. You just go page by page and reset all 50. When I'm really living on the edge I'll reset two pages at a time ;-) This way you can also see if any don't come back to life after the upgrade.

Hope this helps!

Rob

Just by way of an update - im sat here at 9pm (UK time) slowly resetting 47 pages of 7960 IP phones - set at 50 phones per page!

Looks like it takes about 5 mins to reset 50 at a time. Refreshing the page shows them slowly moving from 'not registered' to having registered with the Publisher.

Thanks for the tip Rob!

Hey Andy,

You are most welcome my friend! Thanks for posting back with your results. +5 points for this kindness. This is a slow process but at least it's safe ;-)

Take care,

Rob
