Event Notification in Ciscoworks.

Good afternoon,

We currently use software called What's Up which polls servers and our Cisco devices. I want Ciscoworks to notify us, if a branch goes down etc... instead of using What's Up as this software using Ping to poll the devices and this is not reliable.

What is the best setting to use for Ciscoworks, I want to know when the devices are down and if there are any critical errors?

Any other tip from anyone who has this already setup?

Any help is much appreciated.

You can do this under Cisco LMS >> DFM.

Just go to DFM >> Devices >> Device Management and select your concerned devices. Then make sure that the interfaces you want to monitor was set to 'TRUE' in DFM (This is for SNMP). Also there is a section for IPs which CiscoWorks will try to ping. You can set the concerned IPs to 'TRUE'.

You can then configure a 'notification group' in DFM to send all 'Critical' Events (Or/And Alerts) to any email addres of your choice. This notifcation group is mapped to a 'Email Notification'. You will need to configure your mail server in LMS before this works (Common Services >> Server >> Admin >> System Preferences).

Does anybody know if it's possible to configure CiscoWorks to only send notifications on certain ports on a device?

For example, let's say CiscoWorks is monitoring a router with 8 interfaces, is it possible to configure CiscoWorks to only monitor 1 interface on that router instead of 8?

Sure, Goto DFM >> Device/View >> Select the Device

Go the 'port/interface' and set the ports you don't want monitored as 'FALSE'
