Solved: configuring NTP server on a router

Hi,

We would like to synchronize a Cisco router's clock with Network Time Protocol (NTP). I managed to find the following command.

Router(config)# ntp server <IP address of NTP Server>

1. How do you set timezone Pacific -8?

2. How do you set Daylight Savings Time?

clock timezone PST -8

clock summer-time PDT recurring

Joe has given the correct commands for setting the timezone and for daylight savings time. Note that timezones and daylight savings operate entirely separately from NTP. NTP always uses UTC (Universal Coordinated Time) to communicate and set time and NTP has no concept of timezone or of daylight savings. Setting the timezone and daylight savings is entirely a local function on the router. So your router may be in one time zone and the NTP server may be in a different time zone without creating any problem.
