We are having two 4507 core switches configured in hsrp out of which one is acting as vtp server & the other vtp client. Its a production setup.

We wanted to configure the second 4507 switch as the secondary vtp server. There are lot of vlans configured on the switches & there are critical servers connected to the second 4507 server.

Will there be any disruption in the network if we change the vtp status of the second core 4507 switch from client to server provided the configuration register value less than the primary vtp server?

I certainly would not think so . Verify the client vtp revision number is the same as the server so nothing gets changed .

You should be fine. Bear in mind VTP is only about updating the vlan database across switches so it is not like changing STP parameters which could well cause a slight outage.
