Hi all, when first configuring the asa, what are most peoples first steps, log in via the gui or command line? and what would you configure first, and would you do this in gui or command line ?

Hi Carl,

You will want to connect via the console and use the CLI, as if you use the GUI when you change the spefics ie inside ip address etc, you will most likely lose your connection, assuming your internal lan uses a different number scheme than then asa default. (192.168.1.0/24)

1.If you are familiar with Cisco CLI, it is easy to configure using CLI.

2.ASDM gui is also good for creation of IPsec tunnel & group policy application.

1.enable password

2.Hostname

3.Management IP

4.Clock Settings/NTP

to make ASA functional

1.nat / static command

2.global command

3.access-list
