If I have a port on a switch connected to a 100 foot ethernet cable but nothing connected at the opposite end will this cause any problems? Can it act as an antenna?
That will cause no problems. There are many networks where many a switch port connects to a long cable run that terminates at a wall jack, with nothing plugged in.
