UC520 default ephone/dn/fxs/stcapp configs?

I have several questions regarding the UC520 default configs.

Why are there 4 preconfigured ephone-dns (5-8) and ephones (1-4). I see that they are mapped together and that they also map to the FXS ports. But why are they needed for FXS ports? I've done analog phones on a CME without any ephone or ephone-dn configurations. Somehow this is a more sophisticated way of doing analog integration but I'd like to know what's going on.

Another question is what is the 'service stcapp' under the dial-peers pointing to the FXS ports. Should i just erase 'service stcapp' and add a destination pattern when hooking up a fax machine to the port? I would still like to know what the 'service stcapp' does or means.

I believe the service stcapp statement make the UC see the analog phones plugged into the FXS ports as "skinny" devices, hence the ephone and ephone-dn configurations.
