Is there any reason why this command wouldn't work on a 3560 ip-base switch?

C3560-24#test cable-diagnostics tdr interface fastEthernet 0/10

% TDR test is not supported on interface Fa0/10

Here is the config of the interface.

interface FastEthernet0/10

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport trunk native vlan 7

switchport mode trunk

speed 100

duplex full

srr-queue bandwidth limit 50

You can use the TDR feature to diagnose and resolve cabling problems. TDR is supported only on copper Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports. It is not supported on 10/100 ports or small form-factor pluggable (SFP) module ports. For more information about TDR, refer to the software configuration guide for this release.

That is funny I have it running on another 3560 on a FastE port. The main differece is that the switch it works on is running EMI and not SMI

Port Name Status Vlan Duplex Speed Type

Fa0/8 connected trunk a-full a-100 10/100BaseTX

#test cable-diagnostics tdr interface fastEthernet 0/8

Link state may be affected during TDR test

TDR test started on interface Fa0/8

A TDR test can take a few seconds to run on an interface

Use 'show cable-diagnostics tdr' to read the TDR results.

sh cable-diagnostics tdr interface fastEthernet 0/8

TDR test last run on: March 04 14:54:44

Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status

--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------

Fa0/8 100M Pair A 4 +/- 15 meters Pair B Normal

Pair B 4 +/- 15 meters Pair A Normal

Pair C N/A Pair D Not Supported

Pair D N/A Pair C Not Supported

Why would it give you the option for FastE if you can't use it?

#test cable-diagnostics tdr interface ?

FastEthernet FastEthernet IEEE 802.3

GigabitEthernet GigabitEthernet IEEE 802.3z

Anyone????

That is strange. My source came straight from the release notes/command reference. I am surprised that it does work on the EMI image and not the SMI image.

Kevin,

TDR is supported only on 10/100/1000 copper Ethernet ports. It is not supported on 10/100 ports or on SFP module ports.

HTH,

Mark

What is odd is that does work on 10/100 ports. I though it was the different between SI and EI code but it doesn't seem to be. The switch it is working on is a 3560-8 and we also have a 2960 that it is working on.

Understanding TDR

You can use the Time Domain Reflector (TDR) feature to diagnose and resolve cabling problems. When running TDR, a local device sends a signal through a cable and compares the reflected signal to the initial signal.

TDR is supported only on 10/100 and 10/100/1000 copper Ethernet ports. It is not supported on SFP module ports.

Understanding TDR

In Cisco IOS Release 12.2(25)SE or later, you can use the Time Domain Reflector (TDR) feature to diagnose and resolve cabling problems. When running TDR, a local device sends a signal through a cable and compares the reflected signal to the initial signal.

TDR is supported only on 10/100/1000 copper Ethernet ports. It is not supported on 10/100 ports or on SFP module ports.

I'd guess the 3560-8 isn't in the same boat as the rest of the 3560's. It is probably more of a 2960-8 then a 3560.
