1. What is the ideal slot within 42U rack for 6509E Chassis to be placed.

2. What is the recommended order of placing different service modules within 6509E.

3. Where should other network devices be slotted within the rack along with 6509E.

1) The bottom of the rack - with PSU's they are very heavy.

2) Depends on the version of supervisor module.

3) Where ever you want.

1) Placing chassis at the bottom would obstruct the cables going into the tile cut at the bottom of the rack. Isn't it.

Also, at the low rear side of the rack a patch panel shall be placed. Wouldn't that make it more difficult.

2) The supervisor engine is SUP720-3B

1) OK then as close to the bottom as possible!

2) The sup module needs to be placed in slot 1

2) Since it is not mandatory why do you think it needs to be placed in slot 1.

How about other service modules, switches etc.

2) Actually it depends on the chassis:-

The rest of the modules have no specific placement options.

the WS-SUP720-3B is not supported in slot-1 6509E. You must used slot5 or slot6. The reason for this is the backplane architecture.

The chassis is heavy of course. Remove the power supplies and all the modules first off. Mount and fix into the lower half of the rack. Make sure the hot & cold are zones complied with. This will allow you to determine which way the fans will be facing (i.e. towards the front or back of the cabinet). The other point which has already been made - think about when all the cables are in position, how easy it will be replacing a board for example.
