Unity Connection - User Data Dump

We're running unity connection 2.1.2.1000-380. I've installed the "User Data Dump" tool on a windows XP box per the directions in the video. According to the help file, the following fields are available:

# Mailbox deleted message count.

# Mailbox read message count.

# Mailbox size (in bytes).

# Mailbox store name.

# Mailbox unread message count.

However, after installing the tool, none of the above mentioned fields are available for export. The tool connects without any errors, but the fields are just not available for selection.

Is this working as expected and its just a mistake in the docs? Is there another way to get mailbox size for all users?

Hi Paul,

It looks like the version that is linked for UC 2.1.1 in Unity Tools actually only works with the soon to be released (Next month) UC 7.0.

Connection User Data Dump (CUDD) Tool

The Connection User Data Dump (CUDD) is a Windows-based remote database administration tool available on the Cisco Unity Tools website. CUDD allows you to export specific information about users to a file that can be viewed or imported into another application, such as a database utility or Microsoft Excel. When the data is exported, the tool automatically creates a header row that lists the data type found in each column of the output, for ease of import into other programs.

For more information and to download the tool, go to the Cisco Unity Tools website at http://www.ciscounitytools.com and click CUC 2.x Tools.

From the Help Notes;

Requirements/Special Notes

This version of User Data Dump runs on Windows XP/2000/2003 or Vista.

***This version of User Data Dump only works with Unity Connection 7.0(1) or later.

You must enable the ODBC proxy service on the Unity Connection server and attach to the database using an account enabled for the remote database access role. See the next section for details on this.

Hope this helps!

Rob

Yes, it was a bit confusing as to whether or not its supported. The CUC2.x/7.x Tools tab under Connection User Data Dump says "For Connection 7.0(1) and later". But if you click on the link, the compatibility statement says:

Compatibility : Unity Connection 2.1(1) and later. Requires you enable remote data access. See help file for details.

Just to be clear - it works with 2.1 however not all the fields are avaialable there (the interface support for off box tools was limited at best). Full support for all fields is not there till 7.0.

the 2.1 was "best effort" really - I opted to leave it available than yank the entire tool because some fields couldn't be pulled. If folks find it too confusing I can just change it to not support 2.x...

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for weighing in on this! My vote would be to keep it now that we know the scoop. I think many, many people will be upgrading to UC 7.0 very soon anyways to take advantage of all the excellent new features. It is a real "home run"!

Take care,

Rob

I think its better to have partial functionality than no tool at all. Is there another way to get the mbox size info for all users? Thanks for the follow up and for providing the off-box tools - they have been extremely helpful. paul

Unfortunately for 2.x there's no easy way to do this (without root access) - there's no report that shows the mailbox stats broken down per user and access to the mailbox data from off box is not exposed in the database proxy service - it is for CUC 7.x version, however.

Got it. Thanks for following up. paul

What is your suggestion then, if I want to generate a report that provides information on all users and their mailbox sizes?
