Dear sirs,

we are considering to track wi-fi devices in a industrial environment.

Area is approssima 8000 mq and we have mounted 11 Access Point.

We have used Cisco Aironet 1242 as Access Point and Cisco AIR-ANT1728 as antenna.

Antenna are mounted at an of height 3 m on the wall of the building. Switch used is Switch Cisco 3560.

We want to use Cisco Location Appliance as tracking system.

For theese components is possibile to use Cisco Location Appliance?

Hi Pierluca,

You would need to change your deployment to an LWAPP Model using the WLC (Wireless Lan Controller) and upgrade your 1242 AP's to LWAPP (Lightweight) as well. This is very possible so your investment is not lost here;

Many thanks, but according with our configuration :

- Cisco Aironet 1242 as Access Point

- Cisco 3560 as switch

where all access Point are connected to Cisco 3560 switch, what can i acquire :

1) only Cisco location Appliance Cisco 2700

2) or Cisco Location Appliance and a Wireless control such as Cisco 4400 ?

Many thanks,

Pierluca Pierro

Hi Pierluca,

You are most welcome my friend :) You would need #2;

2) or Cisco Location Appliance and a Wireless control such as Cisco 4400.

You would also need to upgrade your AP's to Lightweight (LWAPP) using the Autonomous to LWAPP Upgrade Tool.

Hope this helps!

Rob

Hi,

Wouldn't a WCS also be required to look at the info from the location appliance ?

Cheers

Don

Yes, you are right. A WCS with location capabilities (look at the license) is also required

You will need the WCS, LocApp 2700 and the WLC and everything running on LWAPP.

However I would strongly advise that you get a proper survy done as the AP locations almost definitly need changing to give and respectable location resolution. You need the location devices to triangulate to between 3 and 8 Aps at -75dBm. Also the mapsetc plus fingerprinting.

I installed alocation device when they first came out and have done many location surveys. You will probably need more aps aswell
