How do we check bandwidth utilization on our uplink port?

Greetings,

I'm curious. Is there an IOS command to check the bandwidth utilization on our 3750 gigabit uplink port?

When we look at a show int command we are seeing large numbers in the output drops field. (show int fax/x/x) and we also see large numbers when we do the show int counters errors command.

One suggestion (on another forum) is to check bandwidth utilization on the uplink port(s) and I'm not sure how to check the utilization.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Keith

Keith,

In the absense of a MRTG or Cacti server - you will see a 5 min average thru-put from the show int gig x/x/x command:-

GigabitEthernet1/0/1 is up, line protocol is

5 minute input rate 39388000 bits/sec, 4076 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 5174000 bits/sec, 2684 packets/sec

From there you can work out bits per second, and the % of util.

im sure you can look at the interface tx load, you will see something like 1/255, you can work that out as a percentage also
